K. R. Sunil’s twin series examine performance-based cultural practices and the communities that sustain them. ‘Thambu—Tales from the Great Indian Circus’ features black-and-white portraits and written testimonies of circus artists, reflecting a vanishing world of shared languages, cultures and camaraderie. On the second floor, ‘Chavittu Nadakam—Storytellers of the Seashore’ presents colour portraits and backstage images from a South Indian dance-drama tradition performed by Dalit and fishing communities converted to Christianity during Portuguese colonial rule.
